Quick snack recipies for toddlers

Snacks have always been our favorite food. Kids love them so much that they are not at all interested in having meals. They just depend on snacks to fill up their stomach. Thatswhy while giving snacks to your baby you have to make sure that they are 80% homemade and only 30% packaged foods. Because we cannot stop our kids from having the snacks available in the markets today like chocolates, biscuits, cakes, and other junk food. But we can limit those by introducing homemade healthy and tasty snacks.

When you give snacks to your baby under one year of age make sure that they are 90 % fruits. You can give:-
  1. Banana
  2. Steamed apple.
  3. Watermelon.
  4. Muskmelon.
  5. Fruit juices.
  6. Promogrenate.
  7. Steamed carrot.
  8. Curd.
  9. Guava.
  10. Mango.

So let's see some of my son's favorite snacks recipes since he was 6 months old and now he is a 2-year-old boy. These snacks are very simple to make and not time-consuming at all.   


1. Homemade Popcorn (after one year )


  • Popcorn is everyone's favorite. Children love eating them. But before giving popcorn to your baby make sure he has some teeth and his gums are hard so that he can chew them easily. I introduced popcorn to my baby when he was 1.5 years old.
  • Making popcorn at home is very easy nowadays. Instead of buying them from outside, you can make them easily at home with a help of a pressure cooker.
  • First, you have to buy the small corn seeds which are used to make the popcorn.
  • Now in a pressure cooker add 3 to 4 spoons of oil, ghee, or olive oil.
  • Now add some salt, black pepper, turmeric, red chilli powder. Avoid red chilli if your baby is less than  2 years.
  • Now add the popcorn seeds. Make sure that all the popcorn seeds are immersed in the oil.
  • Now cook the popcorn on low flame with the pressure cooker lid open.
  • After 5 minutes you will see that the seeds are popping slowly.
  • Now close the pressure cooker lid and put the gas flame high. Don't put whistle.
  • You will hear the sounds of the popcorn popping inside the cooker.
  • Once the sound reduces you can turn off the flame and remove the lid.
  • That all. Your yummy popcorn is ready. 


2. Onion Pakoda (after one year )

  • To make onion pakoda you will need 2 onions and chana aata or besan.
  • Slice the onion in a horizontal position. 
  • Add salt, pepper, red chilli powder, coriander powder, zeera powder, and baking soda.
  • Now mix all these powders with the onions till they become soft.
  • Add half cup besan and add a little water and mix the besan flour with onions.
  • Check the consistency of the batter. It shouldn't be watery or solid. It should be semi-solid.
  • Take oil for deep frying. 
  • When the oil is very hot add the batter little by little with a spoon or by hand.
  • When they turn golden brown turn off the flame and take them out in tissue paper.

3. Aloo Tikki ( after 8 months)

  • To make aloo Tikki you need 2 boiled potatoes.
  • Mash them properly with a masher or with a hand.
  • Now add some cornflour, rice flour, salt, pepper, onions, coriander leaves, and some pudina leaves.
  • You can also add grated carrots to it to make it more healthy and tasty.
  • Now take a pan and put some oil into it to deep fry on shallow fry. Shallow fry is better as it doesn't consume oil in the Tikki.
  • Now take some aloo Tikki masala in your hand and make it in a round shape or any shape you want and place it on the pan when the oil is hot.
  • Let it cook for 5 minutes on medium flame.
  • Now flip and cook the other side of the Tikki for more than 5 minutes.
  • Take it off on tissue paper and serve it to your baby. It's so soft that your baby can easily bite and chew it. 


4. Punugulu with leftover idli and dosa batter.

  •  Take some idli or dosa batter in a bowl.
  • Add some onions, curry leaves, salt, and baking soda.
  • Add some cornflour, rice flour, or sooji ravva.
  • Mix all these together with some water.
  • The consistency should be in semi-solid form.
  • Take oil for deep frying.
  • When the oil is very hot take some batter in your hand or in a spoon and add it to the oil.
  • Deep fry them on high flame till they turn golden brown. 
  • Take it out on a plate with tissue paper.
  • You can also make punugu with curd and maida instead of using idli or dosa batter.

5. Aloo bajji.

  • To make aloo baji you will need one raw potato and besan flour.
  • First cut the potato into slices in a horizontal position. Don't cut it too thin or too thick. 
  • Then take another bowl and add half a cup besan to it.
  • Now add some salt, coriander powder, ajwain, jeera powder, baking soda, and red chili powder.
  • Add a little water to the besan and mix it. It should be in semi-solid form. It shouldn't be too watery or too thick.
  • Now put some oil for deep fry in a Kadai.
  • When the oil becomes too hot take a slice of potato and dip it in the batter on both sides and put it in oil.
  • When the aloo bajji becomes golden brown remove them from oil and keep them on tissue paper to remove all the excess oil.  



6. Boiled Maize or Corn (after one year )

  • Boiled corn is a very healthy snack for adults and children.
  • It has so many nutrients in it.
  • Just take a vessel and add water to it.
  • Keep the maize inside the water and boil it on high flame for 10 minutes.
  • Serve it to your baby when it's warm.
  • Babies love to eat it as a whole.
  • If they don't eat then try to give them in a bowl with some ghee and black pepper.


7. Vada.

  • To make the vada batter take one glass of urad dal.
  • Wash and soak it in water overnight.
  • Grind it into a thick paste by adding little water.
  • Add salt, onion, green chilli, zeera, coriander leaver, pudina leaves, curry leaves into the batter.
  • Mix all these things In a bowl.
  • Place the mixture in a bowl and cover it with a lid for 10 to 15 minutes. You can use it instantly if you want.
  • Take a deep frying pan and add oil or ghee to it
  • Heat the oil until it becomes too hot.
  • Now take a polythene cover, apply some water to it and place a spoon full of vada batter on it and press it gently. Make a round shape and make a hole in between.
  • Now add this vada to the hot oil and fry it until it becomes golden brown.
  • Take it out in tissue paper to remove all the excess oil or ghee.
  • Since the outer layer of the vada is a bit crispy you can either remove it or soak the vada in water for a minute to make it soft.
  • If your baby is below one year then don't add salt, green chilli, or onion. 

8. French Toast.

  • Bread has always been our favorite food. When you are in a hurry just grab a sandwich and run to work. You can have it in your car, on a bus, train, or even on a bike. 
  • We prefer it mainly at breakfast as we don't get enough time to prepare food as we are in a hurry to leave to office.
  • You can also give it as a snack when your baby is feeling very hungry and you don't have time to make something for him. 
  • And also when your kid is getting late for school this breakfast is the perfect option.
  • With bread, you can make many varieties of dishes like an egg sandwich, vegetable sandwiches, non-veg sandwiches, Bread and jam, bread with peanut butter, etc. 
  • This makes a complete meal when taken with a glass of milk.
  • To make french toast you need 1 or 2 eggs and 2 or 4 slices of bread.
  • Take 2 eggs and put them in a bowl.
  • Add salt, pepper, turmeric, red chilli.
  • Beat the eggs completely.
  • Now put a pan on the stove.
  • Add one spoon of ghee, butter, or oil.
  • Dip the slice of bread in the egg mixture and place it on the pan.
  • Dip both sides completely.
  • Now cook it for just 5 minutes on medium flame.
  • Your yummy french toast is done.

9. Corn Flakes.

  • This breakfast and snack option has always been a mom's favorite dish as it is very quick to make. When your baby is very hungry and you don't have time to make something for your baby you can make this. 
  • Just adding corn flakes in cow milk with some honey or sugar can make it a healthy breakfast or snack.
  • For babies below one year of age, you can make it in powder form and use formula milk or breastmilk to serve it to your baby without adding sugar and honey.

10. Simple Boiled Egg.


  • When you run out of snacks or you have no time to make something for your hungry baby just boil an egg and give it to your baby.
  • Babies love eating the white part of the egg but don't eat the yellow part because of its smell and sticky nature.
  • You can mix the yellow egg with curd rice and then give it to your baby. Because egg yolk has so much protein in it and it is very important to be included in your baby's daily diet.
  • You can also make an omelet with some salt and black pepper and give it to your baby if he doesn't eat the egg yolk.
